Marlin made Glenfield and was marketed in stores like Montgomery awards and Sears as a less expensive option to the 336. I have one and it shoots Remington green box 170 grain MOA with a Weaver K4 scope.

The Glenfield 30 series was indeed, a "low option" Marlin 336. They sported birch instead of walnut stocks with no inletting, or stamped to appear to like inletting. They are dated by serial number, just like Marlins. They were also branded as Western Field, J.C. Higgins, and Foremost, for sale in Montgomery Wards, Sears, and J.C. Penneys. A couple years ago, I found a super clean 1963 J.C Higgins at a local pawn shop, and bargained it down to $140 with a 4X scope! It has a plain birch stock.
I bought mine around 1982 at Gibson’s. It came with a Weaver 4x. It’s shoots 150 corlokts great. Mine has slick walnut stained birch with a semi glossy bluing. Fit and finish are great on mine.
