Ruger American 6.5 Creedmoor ammo question

Those of you who are shooting the Ruger American in 6.5 Creedmoor, what ammo would you say shoots the best out of this gun and is sufficient for both whitetail & mule deer?

Hornady black 140gr BTHP or the 143gr ELDX are pretty good.

I wouldn't choose any BTHP for hunting, but thats just me.

That seems to shoot well out of everyone's 6.5, including mine

I like the Hornady vld 143 grain but a cheaper alternative I have had really good results with is the Winchester Deer Season XP 125 grain.

I’ve knocked a couple of does down this season with these, I’ve been impressed so far.

Mine is the RPR, but the Hornady Precision Hunter 143 gr ELD-X has done well at distance and close up for me. I've killed a pronghorn and an axis with it. Axis was at about 75 yards and I thought it blew through too quick to do any damage. Boy was I wrong. That thing tore that axis plumb up inside and went in and out with good sized holes.

I'm not sure I've found an ammo that didn't shoot well out of either of my Ruger Americans. I'm personally locked in on the HSM with a 140gr Sierra Gameking. The Hornady 129gr SST Superformance is another great round but it destroys to much meat.

The ELD-x is a great bullet for larger animals, I was loading them up when they first hit the market. My son and a buddies son both took cull elk and I killed an oryx using that bullet. However, I've seen numerous instances on Texas whitetails where it didn't perform as well as other bullets....lack of expansion, minimal blood trails, etc.

Mine expanded on the axis at 75 yards, and it performed really well. I was honestly worried until I did an autopsy. I found very little blood because that big old white belly was pretty easy to see. Back tracked and there was plenty of blood. Plenty.

Mine doesn't like the Hornady 120 GMX or any of the superformance. Like others have said above, it loves the 143 ELD-X. I got a bang flop on a doe last weekend on a high lung shot with that round.

It also shoots the 129 grn American Whitetail ammo pretty well and the Barnes VOR-TX 127 pretty good.

Chexk out the Federal Blue Box or Non Typical (same thing and cheap). It shoots the same as the eld-x in mine out to 300 yds

As is the case with most. Mine loves the Hornady Precision Hunter 143gr ELDX. Has performed well on whitetails inside 100 yards.
