Youth Gun as a Truck Gun

Has anyone used a youth gun as a truck gun/beater gun? I am thinking about picking up the Savage Axis 243 in a youth model both for my kids to use but also to carry around in the Ranger and/or truck. I like the idea that it is a little smaller for maneuverability.

Has anyone else done this? Pros? Cons? Should I just go ahead and get the full sized model? I already have a 6.5 CM and 7mm08 the kids can use when they get older so I'm not overly concerned about them outgrowing it.

Yep I have. There aren't any cons except they seem louder and kick harder. Or at least in my opinion. Other than that they're fine.

I bought a Ruger American ranch in 300 BO for that purpose.

I have a ruger compact in 7-08. Sweet little gun, easy to maneuver, but it does pack a punch!

There is one for sale in the classifieds.

Love my daughters savage .243. Accurate and dependable.
Wood stocked and cut down for her. Model 11.
But I am liking the rotary mags of the Ruger American and the t/c compass though
            Both cheap and accurate.
