So in a .308, do you have one you consider a low cost yet quality truck gun?

IMO it would be a ruger ranch rifle in 22-250 or 243

Man I’d love me a short 16” barrel bolt gun. Closest I have is a Remington 760 carbine.

Build a custom Remington 700adl in .308 with a cut down and threaded 17” barrel. I chose to go with a Boyd’s stock piller blocked and bedded, topped with leapould glass, but for a budget truck gun you don’t have to do all of that. It is a sweet little gun and money well spent. Works great for public land hunts where long hike ins maybe needed and works just as good in a box stand. Accuracy is great and the small loss in FPS is unnoticeable until you get out to longer distances over a few hundred yards, which can be compensated by knowing your drop. Sorry couldn’t figure out how to post a photo or I would have included one of my last build. Without the scope and rings I have less than $500 into mine and it is a great shooter.

Love my 16" creedmoor chopped Ruger American Predator. Such a good little gun. Thinking about putting a LSS chassis on it as another upgrade.
