I still use a beam and balance scale for reloading and yes I have a digital scale as well. I own two beam and balance scales that I bought new back in the 80's, one is a Redding and one is a RCBS. The RCBS is a 1010 and has never let me down, but I noticed a while back when I was working up a load near max, that pressure signs were showing on the case. I pulled the bullets and remeasured the powder and it was off by 2.5 grains.
I checked them all on my Redding and then checked them on the RCBS. The RCBS was wrong, so I checked the scale with a 250 gr weight standard and sure enough, 2.5 grains off. So something has worn or the magnetic dampener has changed.
Heck, I figured to send it back to RCBS for warranty because the warranty reads as lifetime. So I did and got it back last Friday. Still the same issue, repair tag says "replaced buckshot" plus the repair technician took a file and filed off metal on the powder tray to set zero. I put it back in a box with a chitty letter, plus I told them if they cant fix and it has lived its life to throw it away.
I sure figured RCBS was better than that, but then again the scale is over 30 years old and maybe I better buy another Redding.
