Just got into the IR nightvision game and need to get schooled on tripod / saddle setups....what are you guys running? Best value setup? Can you do it DIY?
I use a Primos Shooting Stick.
My .308 is heavy and the shooting stick creeps closed.
I paid $50 @ Wal-Mart
I also use Bog Pod Tripod. I bought it used from the Classified Section here.
I'm still using the standard yoke it comes with.
I'm thinking of trying the SSA, Sling Swivel Attachment.
This pic is of the Bog Pod while I'm using it.
This picture is of me in a box blind. I use the ledge to support my AR10. It'll balance on the edge.
This picture is of my friends son, win i take hinting with me, using the tripod.
This is if my 5.56 balancing on the tripod.
I don't have any pictures of the shooting stick.
For sit and stalk i like the shooting stick. Simply for the ease of adjustment.
Stationary i prefer the tripod.
I haven't figured out yet a quick and easy way to deploy the legs with my left hand while holding the rifle in my right. I've already got the legs set to MY length.
Here's a link to a video of some of attachments for the big pod.
I use a pig saddle on a Primos trigger stick for Brady.

Safety off and finger on the trigger. This guy lives life on the edge!
OP, get the Slik 700 DX on Amazon for $99. Then decide whether you want a ball head, or a grip attachment. The ball head costs less, is a little easier to move around, but is more likely to fail in the long run. The grip attachment, for example a Kopfjager Reaper Grip, costs more, is a little harder to maneuver (but not hard) and is built like a tank and will last forever. The Reaper was designed by and is used by a lot of SWAT guys.
I use a Caldwell tripod, can't remember the exact name. Field pod mag or some such. Anyway, I like it for stationary hunting, but I'd never recommend it for anybody planning to move a lot, or needing rapid deployment, it ain't good for that. But for a stationary position, with heavy guns, it's rock stable. 500 yard shots are just as stable as shooting off a concrete bench. I usually sit on the ground, but it's adjustable enough to use a chair or even stand up...... all of which are more comfortable that using the rifle mounted bipod and going prone.
I made my own. Yea it pretty crude but it works quite well. I gonna refine it one day so it looks pretty. I had a Swarovski lightweight tripod laying around so put it to use.
Also did a vehicle mount. It's like shooting off a bench rest. Coyotes in the sendero don't stand a chance.

Bought a Larue LT-271 QD accessory mount. Also picked up a tripod ball mount with arca-Swiss mount plate. I drilled and tapped arca-Swiss mount plate to attach Larue QD. Now I have a quick connect for my guns.
Most of my AR’s have 1913 Picitinny rails. On bolt guns just bedded some threaded tube into the stock so I can attach a rail peice
