    Extractor for 6.5 Grendel

I was out shooting and working up a load for my grendel and the extractor broke.
Where is a good place to buy a new one. I looked at some videos and it seems like an easy fix just curious where I can buy one.
If there is a place local in San Antonio, that would be great as I can just go pick one up.

I would call sons of liberty and ask if you can come by and pick one up.

      1. Make sure it is the correct one for your bolt type/chamber (there are 2 different)
      2. Make sure your gas system is adjusted properly this is a big culprit of this happening.
      3. Mae sure your load is within specs. Overpressure loads on the Grendel show on the bolt over time. If you are seeing it on your brass you are WAY out of spec.

        Thanks for the info.

I was well within specs on load and no pressure signs on brass, so not exactly sure what happened. Before the extractor broke a had a 3 shot group about the size of a dime, so was impressed with that.

I was using 27.0 of H335 and 120gr sierra hollow point.

Who’s bolt are you running? Some manufacturers use inferior parts and heat treating and they are known to break easily; either the extractor or lugs.

I bought the complete upper from Arsenal Defense.
Is there a brand of extractor that i should be looking for?

I’m not similar with them. I would contact them first and see if they will take care of it.

If not, I’d buy either an extractor or a complete bolt from Alexander Arms, Precision Firearms, JP Precision or AR Performance.

I have a call into them. Sometimes they are very hard to get ahold of.
I'm planning a predator hunt this weekend and hoped to get it going again by then.

That is a mild load you are running.

Is the gas block adjustable? If it is pulling while the barrel is still under pressure will sometimes break them.

What does the extracted brass look like? Burrs on the rim?

What is the chamber spec? Non-SAMMI spec extractors are much weaker

Yes, Max i believe is 28.3.

Does not have an adjustable gas block, it is a mid-length.

Brass looks good. Not burrs that i can tell. I can run a cotton ball on it this evening to see if it has any small burrs that I can not see.

No sure on the Chamber spec.

I spoke with a Gentleman from Arsenal Defense.
He requested pictures to show failure and he will send me a new extractor.

Grendels are bad about being overgassed. i run them on every grendel.

                              +1 on that.

ARs in general are overgassed, I run them on every one of mine regardless of caliber and none of them are more than 2/3 open.
