    9mm defense/hunting ammo

I have recently bought a CZ SP-01 Phantom in 9mm, it shoots WW 115 grain good and I have tried a couple of defensive loads with good results. I just really don't want to spend $200 plus trying out premium ammo. What have you had the best results with? I am wanting to stick with 124 grain as it shoot to point of aim.

    Check out luckygunner.com
Look at their labs section for the handgun round tests.

Federal 124gr HST is pretty awesome. That's what runs in my Hi Power.

Cant speak to the 9mm but the Barnes XPD has impressed the heck out of. Pulled this out of 158lb boar. Shot him at 15 yards directly behind the shoulder with my 45. Could feel it under the skin on the opposite side. Just sliced it open and it popped right out.

I keep Hornady critical defense in my 9mm's and 380's.

^^^^^This for me as well. I have my GF running 147 gr. Gold Dot in her 9mm, but I run the 200 gr. Gold Dot in my .45. I also ran the 125 gr. Gold Dot in .357 Sig when I worked for DPS, but now working for the County I'm carry 125 gr. Winchester ammo.

Just make sure the bullet doesn't have the pretty colored crap in the hollow point. Seen a fair amount of failure in both federal and Hornady

I don't have a .357 Sig yet. Contemplated buying a barrel to change out. Do you like the round?

I love the round. Carried as my duty weapon for several years until I retired. Carrying it still now that I work for the county. Snappy little round at about 1300 fps. I haven't killed any critters with it yet, but I've got the itch to. A hog is first on the list if I can ever get close enough to one at the lease. I shot it last weekend at a local IDPA match in Bandera and used up some old duty ammo.

It is not my CCW though. The P226 is too large for that so I have a M&P Shield in .45 with the 200 gr. Gold Dot.

Not to derail, but kinda as a sidebar, I'm looking at the P320, CZ P-10C, and the FN 509 in 9mm as well. I think anyone of these will work as my duty weapon and CCW as well. I'm not a big 9mm fan, but I think 17 rounds of 147 gr. Gold Dot pumped onto a bad guy would do the trick.
