Run the 180 then. You’re gonna run into bad stuff with light billets in that hot rod.

Depends on where you hit them. Behind the shoulder at close range is bad news. Hit them IN the shoulder and you’re golden.

Hunting VLD behind the shoulder. Unless it is a trophy of a lifetime we aren’t wasting all the shoulder meat.

I shoot all of my deer center to high shoulder. Our brush is really thick so I want the deer anchored on the spot if possible. Do you think there is any risk of a "blow up" with this combo on a shoulder shot at close range?

That’s why I said go as heavy as you can.

Shooting the 195gr VLD out of a 28 nosler, very accurate at 2965 fps with 26" barrel. Took a nice bull elk this year at 525 yards. DRT

Anyone else using the Berger Elite Hunter? Like them? Not like them? I wanting to try some Bergers in my 28 Nosler 1:9 twist. Thinking of trying the 175 gr Elite hunter. I hear the VLD's like to be jammed into lands and I don't really like to do that on a hunting rifle. Don't want to risk pulling the bullet out of the case when un-chambering a round on a hunting trip.

I’ve had good luck with the 180 Hybrids out of a 7LRM. I haven’t pulled the trigger and not anchored what I was shooting at yet. Killed a pig all the way out to 1390 with it and several deer in the 5-900 range.

My experience, unless you plan on pushing that caliber into max ordinance you are not going to see any difference in 5gr bullet weight. Contact Phil Hoham at Berger tell him Ed sent you his way!
