    AR Stoner barrels?

Anyone have an opinion on their barrels? I am thinking of building an upper for my AR- Grendel in 223 or maybe a whole rifle. Looking at a somewhat low budget build and Midway has them in 16" HBAR, fluted, 1:8", chromoly with a Wylde chamber for $120. I know I could buy a better barrel but @ at least double the price. Seems like a shoe-in for a budget build.

I had a stoner trigger that was flat dangerous. I ordered 4 triggers for builds and only 1 was safe. They would fire when moving from safe to fire.

I tried other triggers on the build lowers......fine. I tried the stoner triggers on lowers that were working fine......issues.

After that I will never order another stoner product.

I never owned a Stoner barrel, but have read a bunch of reviews. The reviews I have read, are mostly very good. The only bad reviews I can remember reading were on the 50 Beowulf bolts, that come with the Beowulf barrels. I read multiple comments on the Beowulf bolts breaking. As for the barrels them selves, I did not read any bad reviews. I read a bunch of reviews on the 6.5 Grendel barrels and the 50 Beowulf barrels. I decided to go with a 458 SOCOM instead of the Beowulf. I am still looking at 6.5 Grendel barrels, of the barrels I am looking at, one is the Stoner brand barrel, then a Satern and one other brand of barrel, that I don't remember the name of the company.

I had on on a 300 blackout build. It shot good and I didn’t have any trouble with function.

If you are considering a Satern I’d get that in a cut rifled version over a Stoner barrel.

My main considerations are 24" non fluted, with 5R rifling. The Brownell's that are made by Satern, meet all of those requirements. I don't remember if the Stoner barrels have 5R rifling. I screwed up a while back. I found a guy selling some no name brand barrels, he had some 6.5 Grendel barrels, they were stainless, 24" 6.5 LBC and they had 5R rifling. He only wanted something like $130 or $135 for a barrel. For that price, with those specs I would have tried one. But I have not been able to find the guy, until the last gun show, I am pretty sure I found the same guy, but he only had 18" 6.5 Grendel barrels, pretty sure made by the same company, they were also a 6.5 LBC and also had R rifling. I told him, if he got any more 24" barrels in, I would like to get one and try it. I am going to check with him next month.

There is another guy, who started a 6.5 Grendel group, he makes barrels and sells other parts. He quoted me a pretty good price on a 24" barrel and bolt. I may try his barrels. I would rather get a matching barrel and bolt, that the head spacing has already been set properly.

The Stoner barrels were just something I found a looked at, but they don't list 5R rifling and they are fluted barrels, which I don't want. I don't normally mind paying the price for the Satern barrel and bolt, really $325 is not bad.

You will be happier with the Satern in the long run based on what I have seen.

When you put cheap in you get cheap out. That’s just counter productive in my opinion.

The Brownell ones are the Liberty (by Satern) button rifled. To get the cut rifled you have to order from Satern. I would only go with the cut rifled, and they are 5r as well.

All Grendel barrels are headspaced with a bolt. If they are not they do not know what they are doing, and I would not buy them.

I stay away from fluting. If you are doing heavy shooting volume it will aide in cooling. If you are going with a 24"bbl you are not interested in fluting for weight savings. The extra mass really helps settle the rifle down though.

I had a 24" and now shoot only 18-20" The 24's are faster, but man are they long in a blind......especially if you put a suppressor on them.
