    Noob question

I'm wanting to put a 15" inch free floating quad rail on my AR-10, I'm assuming the low profile gas block will be in the way? If so is it as simple as just blending it down?

That gas block is designed to be close to rail height so you can mount a front sight on it. If that’s not a 15 inch handguard behind it you will not be able to put a 15 inch rail with out changing the gas block to an actual low profile block that is designed to go under the rail.

And the front attachment for the clam shell guard will get in the way as well. You will never get the barrel nut off or on with it in place,

I would strip it down. Put in a low profile gas block or reinstall after placement,

You have to break it down regardless to change the barrel nut that will come with the new handguard.

Since AR-10's are not all the same, like most 15's, make sure you buy a handgaurd/Nut that will work with your receiver. At that time buy a low profile gas block. (If you plan to suppress, make sure the gas block is adjustable). Also, looking at that setup you may need a new gas tube, but I am not entirely sure on that.

Yes, from the previous picture I saw the clam shell handguard.

Barrel will have to be stripped clean to install a new one.

Like HIC said AR-10 is not mil spec so care in part selection is mandatory.

The problem is that there's no AR-10 spec. What fits one manufacturer's AR-10 may or may not fit another's. Your best bet is to stick with parts from the same manufacturer as the gun.

Only somewhat of a "Standard" is if it "Works on DPMS" uppers/Lowers. Even that is hit or miss.

This is part of why I have stayed out of the AR-10 game.
