    Cull??

Shot this deer this evening. We’re seeing some good up and coming bucks finally on our lease after we think the previous lease members shot anything that walked. Still lots of trash bucks to get rid of before the rut kicks in. So I shot this trashy one. Unique, but definitely not what we want breeding.

I respectfully disagree. Not old enough to win any does this year and looks like he had potential to be really good if you don’t mind high scoring non-typicals. I would’ve held off to see what he did next year.

That all said, congrats on filling the freezer!

No history means no cull for me. That looks more like velvet antler damage in the early growing stages from this year.

I agree, future nontypical. He was too young to impact the herd, and you can't tell what he would have grown up to be, BUT...if you are happy with him and had a great hunt, that trumps everything and is what all this is supposed to be about!

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say,

              Attaboy, nice shooting!

I'd have let him be. The dominant bucks would have prevented him from breeding. Dejected and attempting to find his identity, he eventually would've wandered west and started a career in cosmetology or interior design.

                  Congrats sir

Sure some will disagree but he was a cull in your eyes on your place so good deal!

LMAO, anyway, your call OP. Everyone has different criteria.

He's on the ground, and there's no such thing as catch and release in deer hunting. No need to justify anything now (or at any time, for that matter). Just be proud of the kill and get him in the freezer.
                          All the best,
                          Glenn

I don’t consider any buck a “cull” or management until 31/2 years old. Good shooting though!
