    what scope for 270

I have a Remington 270 that I've had for 18-20 years. Money was tight back then and it has an cheap bushnell scope of it. Time to upgrade it so when my son is ready he can use it. What scope would you put on it?

I’ve got a Vortex Viper 4-16x50 on mine and it’s doing great.

Really depends on where you're hunting and how long of shots you're taking. No reason to spend big bucks on a high powered scope if he'll be taking 100-yd shots

I'd want a minimum 14 power even if shooting 100 yards, I have a 3-18 and shot a 10 pt at 50 yards today had it it just above 10, I could of done it with a 3-9 but I like the extra magnification.. if considering scope for the money I'd spend $500 on a leupold.. if I wanted a higher end scope but didn't want to spend 2k I'd get a night force shv..

I agree with this. Nothing wrong with having extra magnification. For the same money you can get a Burris 6.5x20x50. More versatile the better. And you can use the top end when you really want to look at something before you pull the trigger.

I vote 3x9 x40 simply because of price (they sell so many that keeps price down) and size I put a 4.5x14x50 on my 260...this summer shot it some and it was ok..But come hunting season I decided it was just too big physicaly..went back to my old 3x9 leo

side note every time I looked at that 260 with that BIG 4.5 x 14 ( looked like it had a Spotting Scope mounted on it) and it shot no better just heaver and bulkier..

What's your budget, that would help to determine what scope.

Leupold vx1 3x9x40 look on eBay You can buy them brand new for 139 and some change and I believe it's free shipping and for the price that's a great scope.

4-12 is a good range for a 270. I don't like any more than 4x on the low end. You never know when a close shot opportunity might present itself. And 12x is plenty for deer-sized game out to several hundred yards.
