    Thinking about a new....

Bolt gun dedicated towards varmits and pigs. Definitely will be suppressed and cut down to 16” to account for the length of the suppressor. I was thinking about a .22-250 but a .243 with a lighter bullet is intriguing as well. I don’t expect shots longer than 400 yards, so nothing extreme in shots.

    Thoughts?

Either one would work and with the lighter bullets in the .243 you wouldn't have much much of an advantage with one over the other. I love my 22-250 but a 58 grain v-max out of a .243 will thump a coyote. Having the ability to shoot heavier bullets for hogs out of the .243 would make me lean towards that over getting the 22-250. Other than that just whichever is cheaper to shoot.

400 yds for hogs is outside the wheelhouse for most varmint guns. For 100-200 yds you want light bullets with a lot of speed, but they slow down quickly. For 300-400 yds, you want heavy bullets at more moderate speeds, as they will maintain their energy bullet due to higher BC's.

I'd look at either a fast twist .243 or a 6mm Creedmoor to be able to shoot heavy bullets for pigs and light bullets for varmints.

Both of those cartridges will suffer a good amount of velocity with a 16" barrel. A .308 still produces a decent velocity with that short of barrel, could just shoot a 125gr bullet. Just a option

CZ also makes a neat little mini mauser 527 in the same caliber
