I got the 3-14 for xmas last year and have been playing around with it here and there. With the factory IR I can see maybe 30 yards. Is that normal? Is the after market ones really that much better.

With our 38LRX light in IR you will be able to see 200-400 yards.
With our 50LRX light in IR you will be able to see 300-500 yards.
With our 66LRX light in IR you will be able to see 400-600 yards.
The amount of humidity in the air plays a big part in how far you will be able to see and that is why there is a 200 yard distance variation for each light.
We give TBH members a 10% off coupon code. Just send me a PM and I will send you the code. I will guarantee you will not find a further shining IR light for the size then ours. We also have a dimmer available for each of these lights so you can easily adjust the power of the light by simply turning the dial on the tail cap. This is very important as too bright of IR light can wash out your picture on digital night vision like the ATN.

Thanks!
Kenner, if you have the 3-14x and you can't see past 30 yards then something is definitely wrong with your scope or something is wrong with the IR. With the factory IR you should be able to see 125-150 yards minimum. Does the scope work ok in the daylight?
The only thing I can think to suggest is to be sure you twist the head on the IR all the way one direction and then all the way the other just to be sure you've got it adjusted correctly.
I would suggest giving ATN a call 800-910-2862 and talking to them about it. I'm thinking that they might need to repair or replace the scope or the IR. If you could get your hands on another IR light to test with the scope, that would rule out one half of the puzzle.
Let me know if you need anything, I'd be glad to help.

I can see stuff clearly under a feeder that is over 300 yards from my back yard sitting on my Gazebo in my back yard.
Here is the link UNV 20IR Illuminator Package at Outdoor Legacy Gear If you scroll down below the product description you will see I've got a Youtube video there where I do a full review of the light.

In my opinion, black and white is the only way to go. I can't see a single thing when it's on green. However, I've had guys standing right beside me and they flip the color to green and think it's 2x as good and hand it back to me and I literally can't see a fence post 50 yards away.lol I think it has something to do with the difference in our eyes and vision. Try both but most people use black and white. Also make sure the IR light sensitivity is set to medium in the settings. That seems to be better than high or low in my experience.
