    Loads getting good

I went down to the ranch a couple weeks ago and tested some handloads that I've been working on. I started out seating to the COAL in the Nosler book (3.340") and found a decent powder charge of 74.2 gr. with RL22. This was a while back. For whatever reason I don't have the group size recorded. I think I just determined which groups were best per the powder charge and just made a note of the charge weight.

These loads I just tested were seated .01 from the lands and the 168 grain Amax load shot .688" and the 165 grain Nosler partition .63".
The powder charge on both loads was 74.2 grains RL 22
The rifle is a factory model 700 ADL, slim barrel, in a bedded plastic stock. The trigger is a Shilen.
    Scope is a Leupold 4.5-14 x 40 with a regular duplex reticle.
The groups could be tightened up with better shooting technique, I'm sure. I don't think I'm going to fool with the loads anymore. But I might. They're certainly good enough for shooting out to 300 yards at deer and hogs.

More info, I was using a Harris bipod and a rabbit eared rear bag.
Oh and I guess I should mention the caliber 300 Win Mag.

I would try backing the bullet off of the lands a little more. I find .030" to .040" typically to be best. Some guys say .050". .010" is pretty close to the rifling. That 700 should shoot a good bit better than that. I know you said, your rest was not the best, but with a good steady rest, that rifle should be easily under .500" at 100.
