    Youth .243?

Any suggestions? I want to take my 9 year old deer hunting but he only has a .22. He uses the AR hog hunting but it ain’t going to work for deer.

        a .223 or 22-250 would work fine!

          I do not. I have .308s and a 6.5 Creedmoor

No, he has a bolt action .22 and my .223/5.56 AR that he shoots.

Lots of kids shoot .223 for deer. If he’s accurate with it then use it. My son shot my .243 with low recoil ammo.

I’ve always heard it’s not enough round...he’s accurate to around 70 yards which is within where we’d be shooting

.223 is plenty. Look at youth weekend thread and see all the pics of kids hunting with AR’s.

It's enough, especially for Texas deer.

Well that makes me feel good. It’s a light carbine and a good size for him. Looks like Federal Fusion would be a good round.

My buddy’s kid has shot 4 or 5 deer with an AR and 62 grain softpoint ammo most didn’t go 40 yards. Load him up and let er rip.

I have flip sites on it now but we’re going to scope it up this weekend and get him dialed in.

It will work great. Use a good soft point bullet and keep shot within 100 yards and it will do fine
