    help with stripped lower

so I am building my first ar at least it's the first time starting from a stripped lower. what tools do I need to go from a stripped lower, parts kit and buffer assembly to a complete lower

This is what I found is mandatory.

You can do it with less but it will be harder.

    Roll Pin Punches
    Needle Nose Pliers
Long handled screwdriver or allen key (depends on grip screw)
    Action holder
    Vice
    Vice Grip Needle nose

    Simple to do

Wheeler makes armorers kits that will have everything you need aside from the vice.

Plenty of videos on YouTube that take you step by step and show everything you need. Definitely worth watching a few.

It’s easy. Go to ar15 forum online and they have some great step by step, with picture tutorials. After you build one yourself you realize how easy it is and it becomes an addiction.

This is the ticket set the vise on the coffee table and build along with the video and pause when you need to.

just assembled my first lower this week. I'll add two things to the list above: spanner wrench to tighten the castle nut on the buffer tube & a razor knife or other thin item to hold the spring detent down while installing the pivot pin. Otherwise you'll be crawling on your hands and knees looking for the detent that shot across the room.

I've got a punch that is dang near the same size as the pivot pin. I put it in there to hold the detent and spring in place and then just push it out with the pivot pin. Works like a charm.

Vice grips are the best way to install the bolt catch pin IMO. Put a dab of oil on the pin and it will slide right in. Wrap the jaws with something that won't scratch the lower.

I assembled my first one in my lap using nothing but a finishing hammer and a clevis pin after reading a tip about using it for the front takedown pin.

A castle nut wrench is needed to finish it up, but everyone has a buddy with one if you're not looking to build multiple lowers.

I've since built 2 more lowers and bought all of the recommended tools, but the onky ones I use are the roll pin punches.

Masking tape or electrical tape has been my friend when putting the pins in on the bolt release. I wrapped punches and lower completely. I have never used a vise. Good punches are absolutely essential. I tried without them once and won't do that again.

Here is the video I used for my first build. To install the pivot pin I use an allen wrench that was just about the same size as the pin. Used it to hold the detent in place then drove the allen key out with the pivot pin.

Get some blue painters tape and tape up receiver to prevent from scratches and nicks.
You can build them with out a vice and mag well holder, but it is nice having the extra hand.
If you plan on shooting the AR a lot, get yourself a set of anti roll pins and install on build.
