    Is it enough?

Is my 6.5 creedmoor with 143 grain enough for a oryx? I've killed Elk with it. Or should I break out the 300 win mag or the lapua.

It's all where you put the bullet. One of the African hunters who killed the most elephants used a 7x57..If you shoot it well, and know where to shoot the animal, it ought to be plenty.

I'm tanning a hide for a shoulder mount right now and its thick...probably close to 1/2" thick in some places. Just make sure you have a good bullet designed for penetration...

        I'd go with the 300WM.

It's a large animal with a tough hide, why sweat it when you have the proper medicine for the job.

To me it's like using a 6 iron on a par 5 off the tee box. Will it get the job done, yes. But a driver would be a much better option.

Shot placement is what matters. 6.5 should be plenty.

I shot mine with a 140 gr Nosler Accubond in my 270 wsm. Guide was surprised when it was a DRT! Said they usually run forever and are really tough animals.

Shot placement and quality projectile, designed for controlled expansion is key. If you get that right, it should be fine. But if you're worried about it, use something bigger. Lack of confidence affects precision.

Another thought to ponder is terminal ballistics. If you subscribe to the theory of minimums, you need 1800 fps and 1500 pounds of energy on an elk sized animal to ensure proper bullet performance and penetration.

If that's the case, you run out of energy at 350 yards with the Creed.

Again, not saying the creed won't do it but there's a lot of insurance in that winny. Personally, if I think I'm going to stretch it out there I want to hit them with all I can.

It's enough. But so is the 300 and the Lapua.

Shoot what trips your trigger. (cliche', so to speak )

I think it's plenty but shoot what you have confidence in. The 300 or Lapua will give you more room for error. I wouldn't be afraid to shoot one with one of my 6.5s but I'd probably choose my 300wm.
