Reloading help

New into reloading and doing some 6.5 Creedmoor. I have been loading 6.5 Grendel with good results. After loading these it appears that the ring is still not below the case and wondering if this is ok? This is only with the Barnes bullets. See pictures

Check your OAL in the manual and measure what you ended up with. Most likely you didn't seat them deep enough for that recipe.

In most cases, your brass should crimp into that groove of the bullet.

You need to reset your die. The ogive is different on different bullets. That one probably won't fit into your magazine either.

That ring is called a cannelure, and it's completely safe sticking out of the case. Just make sure it has enough bearing surface in the case. Some people use it for crimping.

The ring is the cannelure and it looks pretty clear your bullets aren't seated deep enough. You absolutely must check the manual and make sure your bullets are under the max OAL. Jamming a bullet that's seated too far out into the lands of your rifle can cause a very dangerous pressure spike. Please be careful with this.

Yes it's ok if fits your chamber without being jammed too tightly into the lands. Also check to make sure they will fit in your magazine. It's not unusual at all to have loaded rounds like that and have them work perfectly fine. The rule of thumb is to have a least the bullet diameter inside the case neck. For example. A .22 centerfire bullet should be seated at least .224 in the neck. Reloading manuals list overall length as a guide. There is nothing wrong with adjusting to fit your gun.

Thanks for info everyone. I just purchased a Ruger Precision and dang sure don't want to blow it up or me. I am going to go back and re-check all reloaded rounds.

First off, you need to find the length of your particular chamber to the ogive. Hornady OAL tool is the easiest way to do this unless you know how to strip your bolt down. I would advise to never load past that length. Need to measure each different bullet you plan to reload because the nose will be different between various makes and manufacturers. Cannelures and crimping are not needed in a bolt gun.
