    to loud to shoot!

Have and M4 that is an absolute pain to shoot due to how loud it is.

Besides a can what type of muzzle break/flash hider can I install to help?

    Thankful for the knowledge here.

Standard 16" barrel or short barrel?

I would just wear earplugs, in fact no matter what you do you will need earplugs. However, you can put a Noveske Pig on the barrel to send alot of the muzzle blast down-range.

Besides a can good ear pro is your only choice. Even with a can you should still wear it. Muzzle breaks will be louder than a flash hider, but nothing on a 556 gun will be anywhere close to hearing safe.

I'm assuming you are wearing ear pro and it's still painful? Double up and wear plugs under muffs.

Don't put a muzzle break on it whatever you do. Those things will deafen you and anyone else around when it goes off. They look cool but I hate those dang things.

Shorter the barrel, louder the bang. Suppressor is the only thing you can do to hush it a bit.

If you think that little thing is loud you better not shoot a .460 S&W revolver. I got to wear plugs and muffs or it will ring my ears good. Unless I'm killing things then I still wear plugs.

I believe everyone ought to wear ear protection any time they shoot just about any firearm. I've had really bad tinnitus since 1977.

After 25+ years of me shooting w/no ear pro it's taking it's toll. If you have to, double up!

Always wear ear pro...this thing is still loud as all get out.

It's a 16" barrel...may get a 30 caliber can so I can swap it out with other guns...

Plugs under muffs work pretty well, but I think your idea to get a can is the most American thing to do. I'm on the edge of doing the same thing myself.

This is a good choice. I still wear ear pro shooting suppressed 5.56 FWIW.

                            ^^^ This.

The DPMS Levang was discontinued (for some reason,) but other linear compensators are still available.

They are WAY better than an A2 flashhider or muzzle brake. Far less noise and pressure concussion. I still HIGHLY recommend hearing protection - I have ruined my ears shooting an A2 without protection - but the linear compensators are a plus all the way around as far as I am concerned.

                              X2!

.223 is annoyingly loud- especially gas guns, it seems like. I can shoot my 25wssm to my 300wm without hearing protection using my cans but I only shoot my ARs with ear pro AND a can, except hunting. I deal with the ear ringing when predator hunting with a suppressed AR.
