    Suppressor thread size question

Ok so i had a 280 AI built by APR. The barrel was threaded 1/2-28 because of the barrel profile. So afterwards i am starting to look at suppressors. I was thinking about a thunder beast ultra 7 (because this along with my 6.5 creedmoor are for longer range shootimg and hunting and i have read the TB is the best for this) with the CB mounts to use on other rifles I have with 5/8-24 threads. After looking at their website i discovered they recommend bigger threads for a 30 cal, and do not make a CB break with 1/2-28 threads for 30 cal. There isn't enough "meat" with a 30 cal aperture and that thread size.

So i called them and they basically said i needed to re thread my barrel. (Which i really really don't want to do)
Then i found some thread adapters that basically just screw on the 1/2 threads and have the 5/8 threads on the outside with a shoulder for the CB break to seat against. I have read where these work and have read where people don't recommend it. Most that have seen that say it works are on smaller profile barrels like what i have. Has anyone ever used any of the adapters with any success or failure? What can go wrong? This is a hunting rifle and occasional targets. Not high volume that will heat up the barrel much.

    Thanks
    Jason

I use an adapter with my APR 280 Ackley. No problems whatsoever

I have an adapter to put a 30 cal suppressor on my .556 AR with no issues.

So your APR has 1/2-28 threads as well? What suppressor are you running and what adapter did you use?

Does anyone else have any experience with thread adapters and supressors?

I run one on my 257 wby with no issues

            Took it from a 9/16 to a 1/2

I'm sure it would work but with multiple thread points, I doubt it would be as accurate as with a single threaded 5/8 mount. In short, more pieces equals more movement and/or possibilities of error.

What can are you running? I am thinking TBAC ultra 7 but am open to other suggestions. I am just wanting something to go to and from multiple guns and have repeatable POI. And everyone and everything I have heard from the ultra 7 with their CB mounts is outstanding repeatability

Ultra 7 is a very popular one. I run a couple on it SilencerCo Omega and a Crux Ark30

Do you like those? I am wanting to he the most consistent and accurate at mid to long range (out to 700 or so for the most part, maybe slightly farther)

I run an Ultra 9 between three rifles and the repeatability is excellent.

Deleted my post. I'm a dumbass and didn't fully read your post, this prompting me to basically restate your issue. That being said, I don't see any reason why the adaptor your talking about won't work as long as it is well made and keeps the can concentric with the barrel.

Call my boys at Runner Runner Guns in McKinney. They know all about suppressors.

I might call back once more and see if maybe that guy was just a grump and you can get someone else more helpful or at least educational. But at the end of the day I'm going to listen to the suppressor manufacturer.

                              Suppressor thread size question

I have a .30 Ultra 7 and it's my favorite can. When I'm shooting a precision rifle, it's my go-to can. It's SO repeatable and very minimal POI. It has zero negative effect on group size.

I sort of went through what you're going through when I planned the custom 6.5 build I'm just finishing. I ended up choosing a slightly heavier barrel contour than I originally planned; just so I could go 5/8x24. Their concern with threading .30 and 6.5 barrels with 1/2" threading is that the muzzle can distort like a bell shape. If this happens you could lose concentricity. Maybe it paranoia or just an abundance of caution but my gunsmith agreed. I chose him because of his renown in the benchrest community and I wanted the most accurate rifle I could get. He did not want to thread a 6.5 barrel with 1/2. Sothat gave me another reason to go with a heavier contour. All that said, when I was talking to TBAC, they said they actually had a few .30 CB mounts that were 1/2x28 stashed. They don't recommend going this route but they did have some for those that did. They do not advertise it. I would call them again and ask. You can probably get away with the adapter but I'd (personally) prefer not to have to.

Odds are, your barrel isn't thick enough to provide enough shoulder if you tried to go 5/8. So, I doubt rethreading is an option unless (maybe) you chopped your barrel way back. Hopefully TBAC can scrounge you up one of those secret CB mounts; because their Ultra series is as good as it gets for precision shooting!
