Another What If Scenario (As Far As A Gun Build Goes)

So this post has 2 parts.

The first is the ol' what if you came into money, or had a great job where you could have your custom gun builds. Would 3-4 calibers generally cover all you needs / wants (besides the ol' "Get 1 of everything" answer).

    What would your choices be? I'm thinking 22-250, 270, 7Mag, 338.

Part 2: What would be your focus on the build? Action & trigger, stock, or glass?

    Am I missing anything else?

Please give reasons for your opinions.

Love to dream that one day ......

Part 1: 280AI and a 375 ruger or H&H mag. Can kill anything alive with the 375 and the 280AI is a great round at any distance, but still wont trash whitetail.

Part 2: If you have money, which not focus on all of those things?

If it were me, I would have the same ones on your list, only replacing the .270 with a .260 instead.

As far as focus on my build....everything. Building a custom means every part of the gun is to your liking. Kind of hard NOT to think about this, that, or the other.

Another What If Scenario (As Far As A Gun Build Goes)

        Part 1
        For rifle calibers...
        308
        270 WSM
        5.56
        7.62

But, I would definitely not just have a single gun in each...

        Part 2
Builds would be drastically different even within the same caliber, and I would probably have several duplicates of my favorite versions. (We are talking about stupid money here... so why not)

In 308... I would want a nice, simple all around hunting rifle, a dedicated subsonic integrally suppressed rifle, a rugged sniper setup, and a tricked out super tight shooting target gun.

In 270 WSM... I would want a nice western hunting rifle. Nothing too ridiculous, just love the round.

In 5.56.... I would want lots of different builds from a bolt action rifle, all the way down to an AR pistol.

In 7.62 I would want the same as 5.56 but adding in a sniper/target setup as well.

If I came into money i would focus on action, trigger, stock, barrel and glass.

          4 calibers would be

          22/250
          6.5x284
          280 AI
          .338

I'm actually really wanting a .300 win mag in an AR platform.

Another What If Scenario (As Far As A Gun Build Goes)

I see a lot of overlap in some suggestions.

                  Mine would be:

                  22-250 AI (check)
                  257 Wby (check)
                  300 Win Mag (check)
                  375 H&H (don't have this yet)

Some of mine are built on custom actions and some are built on trued 700 actions. The custom action is hands down better. Put a good stiff stock under it, buy a good barrel (and hire a good smith to do the barrel work), pillar & glass bed it, Jewell trigger and high end optics and mounts your choice.

                  Lights out.

Hey there, CHEATER - you looked at MY list!! Lol!

                    22 Nosler
                    22-250AI
                    6.5 Creedmoor
                    6.5 SAUM/6.5 PRC
                    7 Dakota
.338 Edge +P in a Defensive Edge LRKM rifle

Building rifles I look at ALL components. I don't build until I've obtained all the best parts I can find. It may take me longer to do them but I haven't done a "budget" build in a very long time. It's worth the wait.

X2. Except I would opt for the 22-250 as I do not roll my own. All I lack is adding the .375 to the collection.

Custom rifles and rolling your own go hand in hand

                              6.5 Grendel AR, Christensen barrel

                              .308, 18" heavy tactical style

                              6.5x47 Lapua, for Texas whitetail

280AI, for all other hunting needs

300WM long range sniper style setup

No where near all the guns I would own, but these would be the most expensive rifles in my collection... Maybe. Premium actions, stocks, triggers, barrels, and glass on all.
