I have the SWFA SS in the fixed 10. Very good glass and consistent turret movement. I am to the point that I would either spend the $$$ for a Nightforce (on the .300 ultramag) or just go with the SWFA (on the .308) and if I need to go cheaper go with Leoupold (on a Grendel).

Is it more of a tactical rifle or hunting rifle?

Have you looked at Athlon optics? I'd venture to say their Helos BTR and Midas BTR are probably going to be better than most in their price range and should fit your budget nicely.
