They specifically said he had to be 21 to have a handgun. They gentleman that pulled him over (speeding and he was) was very polite and suggested he get a legal short-barrel shotgun so it wasn't a "gun" issue.

The hassle was trying to get it back.

They were gunna keep it. We had a game warden in my area that stole guns from people for years. Luckily he retired when I was young and the guys that replaced him were great people and friends. He took a 22 from my dad for shooting at cans and tryed to say that some old hides on the wall of their barn were evidence. His son was my age and I would go to his house and imagine this. He had a huge gun collection.

Correction...it was a local PD not county sheriff. I never got the feeling at all that they were trying to keep it...they just did not like it when they were told they were wrong.

They told me over the phone that a parent could come
Get the gun. I couldn't because I'm the step-dad - Unless I could prove that it was my gun. We have the same address on our DL...

His dad lives 8 hours away in LA. He does business with folks in TX and they suggested he get AG office involved. He did and my son was ultimately able to get the gun back himself.

This took 5-6 weeks
