    Remington model 7 issues

I bought my first Remington bolt gun last year and went with the model 7 in 7mm / 08 so I could have a handy truck/ Mule gun for riding around. I have several other bolt guns (ruger 77, browning A bolt & Winchester mod 70) and never had any issues chambering a round.

When I first loaded my new model 7 it took a little more force to chamber a round than I'm used to. Being new to the model 7 / 700 platform I thought it was just the way these things functioned. I love carrying the gun and this thing shoots lights out.

Today after carrying it in the woods I unloaded it and actually inspected the rounds. What I noticed was what seemed like pretty good amounts of scraping on the case. I also noticed a dent where the case starts to neck down.

Has anyone else had these issues? Suggestions / feedback is appreciated! Click image for larger version

I have 3 Model Sevens. If I recall, I get a lot of scratches as well but no chushed shoulders like pictured. I have 1 older model and 2 newer models, 3 screw and 4 screw. Interested to see what you find out.

looks to me like the magazine lips need to be tweaked.

That dent in the shoulder area look like it may need to be sent back and reamed. Are you using factory ammo? And how many have you loaded in the mag? Say you loaded 3 in the mag and chambered all 3, do the all look this way?

I'm shooting factory hornady American whitetails. All I'm able to load is 3 in the mag. If I put 4 it is even more difficult to chamber a round. They don't all look dented like that but they are all scratched up pretty bad

They probably didn't chamfer the rear of the chamber which leaves a sharp edge.

You can try to tweak the Mag lips as BBoswell suggested, or take it to a gunsmith and see what they suggest. I had a friend but a 700, had chamber issues, took it to a gunsmith and they told him to send it to Remington. Remington fixed the issue and returned it to him. If 4 in the mag makes that big a diff chambering, I would look at the mag first. That dent could have been there from the factory (fluke round) or it could have happened leaving the mag upon chambering a round. Hard to say, but I would say you have a couple places to start looking.
