Me and my buddy are going shooting Saturday

So as usual I'm deep into hour 3 getting ready.
    It's my THING
I dislike it but got tired of fighting it.
Plan for everything be, ready for anything hopefully
I've posted about it in the past [emoji20]

    Anyways.

    Guns (2) oiled.
Mags unloaded and reloaded with fmj.

I had some boxes left over from last year when I was testing which commercial ammo my rifle liked.
I have both .223 and 5.56. I was trying to figure out how to tell which mags was loaded with 5.56 and which had .223 When I noticed that the 5.56 rounds had been annealed and the .223 hadn't.
    I've got various mfr
    PMC
    PMC Bronze
    PMC Xtac
    Remington
    American Eagle
    Winchester

    Is this an industry standard?

I've often wondered how to tell them apart without checking head stamps. I just checked a couple One was marked .223 Remington the other didn't have a caliber...

I've been very conscientious about not mixing, even though I have a 5.56 chamber...

I'm not shooting for accuracy tomorrow.
Just killing papers enjoying time with an old friend.
We haven't had a chance to spend much time together outside of church.

Maybe this will expand to other members.......

Im pretty sure all shouldered brass has been annealed. Its just that you can see it on the mil surplus ammo.
Have you tried a google search on the different brands you have to see if they are 223 or 556?

Just by looking here it looks liek the PMC bronze is 223 and xtac is 556 BUT the xtac match is 223.

Not real sure on the american eagle one as it looks like they make it in both, but if you can see that it is annealed then I think its mil surplus and 556

Remington - Im guessing 223. I just looked up their ammo and on the initial search did not see any 5.56, maybe if I kept looking I might find some.

winchester makes it in both 223 and 556
