I load 270gr gas checked LeadHead bullets 19.6gr H110 magnum primers for my 41 Rem mag. Wouldn't think a black bear could stand up against these. I know they will take a 200lb hog completely off it's feet DRT.

The Indians didn't even have pistols, they carried lance, bow, knife, and tommy hawk/club. It wasn't the Bears that wiped them out.

Took the cannon to the range. Surprisingly comfortable to shoot and super accurate.

You will be fine with the 45 auto. Not a lot of bear attack new out of that area. After all you said you were going fishing not bear hunting.

44 mag but to be on the safe side get a 500 SW. I love the big hand cannons

Take something you are proficient with. All the lead in the world won't do you a bit of good if it doesn't take out the vitals or CNS.

I'm not worried about bears. I have ran into several while out. The bears were all in a hurry to vacate the area mostly.

We did have a couple of bears hang out 100 yards or so from my brothers portable saw mill up in a canyon. I would hike up to where they were and they would always take off. They were waiting for us to leave so they could see if we left any goodies to snack on.

During hot dry times some of our game cams would get 5-10 different bears a day if one of them did not mess with the cam.

We would always find Bear marks around the mill and in our supplies.

The bears were like coons more of a nuisance than anything.
It is possible to catch a female and her cubs off guard so It is something to be aware of and I always carry a 41 mag.
I doubt I would have ever used it on Bear but I have it just in case. Probably mostly for the two legged critters.

I usually carry the smith mountain gun when on long treks and while hunting.

I'm more fearful of a high elevation lighting storm.

There is plenty to be said for a 10mm and 12 gauge

you'll be fine with your fishing pole. No need to be worried about bears, especially in Colorado. If you want to carry, carry. But don't carry just because of bears.
