    Tell me about 6.5x55 Swede

I've never shot one before. I understand it to be a sweet shooting cartridge and plenty for Texas game. Not reloading. I'd like to hear your thoughts...

Basically does everything and more that the 260 Rem and 6.5 CM do except fit into a short action. Been around a long long time too. It's a great low recoiling but effective round.

My deer rifle is a 6.5x55.

If you don't reload, I don't know if I would suggest it because the selection of ammunition is not very good. Most company's make a factory load but it's really more of a reloader's cartridge IMO.

Mine is a 1994 Remington Classic and likes 140 grain Nosler Partitions and will wad them under a dime at 100 yards. I have shot several deer with it and have never lost one.

Europeans have been shooting Moose with the 6.5x55 for 100 years. It's a great cartridge plus you can still find Mausers chambered in it on gun broker.

I read that factory loads are typically weak because of all the military surplus guns available and that reloading was preferred. Good to know. Thanks

I've killed a bunch of animals with a 6.5x55, and I kick myself every day for selling both rifles I had in that caliber. I reloaded for mine, so I don't have a clue about the selection or availability of factory ammo.

Probably going to have a very hard time finding someone who doesn't like this round. Especially if they've ever owned one.

Probably one of the best calibers with low recoil for deer. Like others ... I could Kick myself for selling mine. Sporterize M96 that could shoot dime sized groups at 100 yards all day with any Ammo ..

If you really want one, I would consider either reloading or getting someone like Dallas Reloads to do it for you. Reloading is not that hard, and you can get into the basics fairly inexpensively, especially if you watch for a used press. I only load for two rifle calibers and two revolver calibers, but I can't get the accuracy I want with the bullets I want without it. Good luck !

As everyone as mentioned the 6.5x55 is one sweet deer round. My stepdad is a big Swede fan and has had a few of them over the past. His factory Tikka T3 will hold 1/2 MOA at 100 all day long. As far as ammo, reloading for that round is a huge bonus cause you can really tune it and also because factory ammo can be slim to buy in stores.

Great Round. if you want factory ammo you will need to buy it online. You can get Nosler, Norma , HSM, Hornady, Fusion, Federal and many more for a hunting round.

I have a stock M96 that is the "family" rifle. Paid $300 for it and it's the rifle we fight over if going to the range or hunting. Great all-around cartridge.

                            Had one as a kid...

My dad had an old Swedish Mauser that had been sporterized. I loved that gun, but he took it to south Africa and gave it to his outfitter or sold it, I don't remember.

I'm in the mood for another one. If I can't find one in a Browning 1885 Single shot I'm gonna have Alamo build me one.

Probably my next build but it will be 6.5x55 improved. You can run 140's pretty hot. It's some of the cheapest Laupa brass you can get. But I reload and not reloading I would say nothing to gain over 260-6.5creed. And your pretty limited on guns. Special Remington's Howa cz and Tika are about it.
