    Log doesn't matter.

Regular insurance you're going to need additional rider to have them all covered. Or get firearm insurance specifically

This is what state farm told me a few years ago.

Yeah...you are going to have to schedule your guns for ins if you have a substantial collection.

Main thing to note about keeping make, model & S/N is if one is ever sold or stolen, you have traceability and ownership if stolen. I once got a Beretta model 84 380acp returned like 8 years after it was stolen. It was my Dad's but I had the s/n written down & was the one who gave the police report.

If you have a Remmy 700 30-06 or 870 12ga & it's stolen but cannot give a s/n to report...they are not going to return it to you if recovered because they made a gazillion of them. What are you going to do?? Tell them about a scratch on the stock...not gonna work.

Take some time to get it done.

          ^^This^^

Mine (TX Farm Bureau) not only requires a separate policy for guns, they also require an appraisal of each gun. Keeping a log is still a great idea. It'll help recover your guns if they're ever stolen and then found; plus it is a quick way to provide LE with the info they'll need to identify your property.

Three of my rifles were passed down to me from my grandfather, 2 1890 winchesters and a 1946 mod 70. Had these appraised by gun dealer. also have a complete log of all guns, 1 with ins. agent, safe deposit box, mothers house. Also ins agent reccommended a walk thru video of your entire house and garage, and narrate as you film. Again 3 copies. In case of fire you wont have to try and remember everything you had.
