    Looking for lead

Getting into casting bullets. I am looking for lead to melt down for casting

I have checked around my area (NW Houston) and have come up blank. Anyone have any connections or ideas on where to find lead?

    Thanks.

I've had mixed results with small town shops looking for wheel weights

Between $1- $1.50/lb from what I have seen.

I would ask those guys and let them know you were willing to pay a little. Also check out places where you can dig up some range scrap. Seen lots picked up that way

A couple of ideas / places to look:

                1) The aforementioned tire shops - I know you checked, but some will still have them. Look at smaller places - little do-it-all garages, vice stuff like Discount Tire. Big places like that sometimes have company pick-ups for lead that they recycle. They caught on that they were wasting money by not recycling the large volumes of wheel weights they removed.
                2) Roofing companies that have removed old roof vent lead flashing - major source. Find a company that just removed roof vents off of a house + large cast iron pot + big propane burner = a major amount of lead in no time. (Plus a lot of lead fumes - be careful).
                3) Cancer treatment facilities - certain meds are shipped in lead ingots. Nice pure lead.
                4) Plumbing Supply house
                5) X-Ray Shielding Companies
                6) https://rotometals.com/lead-ingots-wire/

                All the best,
                Glenn

Contact sportsmans guns and ammo in Conroe, he has some he might sell.

Check with your local salvage/scrap yard. They buy it for .30 per lb and sell for 1.30. The days of free lead are just about gone. I'm assuming you've done your homework and realize that wheel weights are about the only cast and shoot lead. Pure lead is too soft unless you add some antimony to the mix. Lots of good info over at the castboolits website.

I make my own fishing weights and whenever I need lead I hit up one of the small tire shops and usually get a half of a 5 gal. bucket for free every time. I don't fill it up because its too heavy and will break the handle off. It helps talking Spanish, Just saying.

Look at castboolits .com. There are several venders there that sell lead. Range lead, and wheel weights. You can get 50 lbs in a flat rate usps box. Last I bought was $65 for 50 lbs delivered. I leave a dolly out for the postman when I am expecting a shipment.

Check out NELCO off 610 and Homestead. I worked there many moons ago and all they do is lead work.
