    7mm-08 Reduced Recoil?

Family and I are headed to Camp Verde tomorrow for spring break. My son and I have been asked to reduce the numbers of aoudad ewes on the ranch, and as always, shoot all the hogs we can.

My 11 yr old shoots a Ruger American in 7mm-08. He prefers the Hornady CustomLite loads in 120 grain. My question, is this load enough for aoudad ewes out to 100-150 yards, given that the boy has to do his part with shot placement? He shot a nice ram last year, but the shot was high. Given the blood I found, I know the ram went down, but he covered a lot of ground and we were unable to recover him. We've also shot the Hornady in 139 grain, but my boy is more comfortable with the lighter loads. Thanks for any tips!

Do the light loads shoot near the same point of aim as the 139's?

If so , just slide the 139 in when it's time to hunt.

I did this with my son when he was using light load 7-08's and I got tired of not getting pass throughs and weak one hole blood trails.
He never realized he was shooting full loads on animals until I showed him the case. ( I had the weak loads marked with a sharpy)

My son shoots the Barnes Vor-TX in the 120 gr. It seems to kick less than the 139 gr. loads
