    Suppressor and Barrel Profile

I searched the title and got nothing.

When you add a suppressor it changes your barrel harmonics which changes your point of impact.

    Here's my question.
Would a heavy or bull barrel be better than a Light weight or pencil?

    Would a heavy barrel

I have been reading much on this. POI change has more to due with thread/bore suppressor/bore alignment than harmonics.

I believe they both play a role. I have some titanium suppressors that do have a noticeable point shift even in heavy barrels and I have other ones that have little to no effect on it.

I do believe a lightweight/pencil barrel COULD be affected more because of potential extra barrel whip.

A pencil barrel is going to be harder to get enough of a shoulder when cutting the threads for the suppressor to attach. So not directly answering the harmonics question, a bull barrel would allow more material to insure proper attachment/alignment?

It's all voodoo. You have to shoot it to find out.

You index of the bore. Not the OD. So no. You only need enough shoulder to snug it up against. Has ZERO to do with alignment.

Heavy can on a thin barrel equals huge POI change. That's simple science. Light can on a heavy barrel isn't as bad but can still change the harmonics and shift it. Keep in mind the quality of the suppressor and consistency of the internals effects this as well.

                My thoughts exactly.
I doubt there's an easy rule that applies across the board.
                Like most things, "it depends."

You don't understand that hanging weight off the end of a barrel will pull it down? Or are you just being a smartass?

I can replace almost equal weight suppressor vs brake, and have a 3-4" POI change. I will try and weigh this weekend and shoot groups, but way more than just weight.

You have to adjust the angle of the dangle to match the relative humidity of the hydrometer taking into account the moon phase and general relativity.

I bought a silencerco harvester last year with the intention of having my Remington 700 threaded. The gunsmith would not thread it for mounting the suppressor because of what the other guys said about the shoulder. He said in time it would start damaging the base of the suppressor because the shoulder was not tall enough to support the end of the suppressor.

Gave me an excuse to buy a a different rifle.

Find a new gunsmith. You can do a 1/2x28 thread and still have a shoulder that's good enough on most all barrels. And if not he should have been able to make an adapter to give it a shoulder. WTO threaded my youth model 243 Remington 700 and I just used the 1/2x28 mount on my harvester. Worked great.
