Ever been checked for proof of registration of suppressor or SBR?

I was just reading another thread on the legal requirements for proof of registration for a suppressor. I don't want to hijack their thread, but I am curious how often people are actually checked, by whom and under what circumstances.

If you are the owner of a suppressor, SBR, etc that must be registered, have you ever been checked?

If you have, who was doing the checking and under what circumstances?

Obviously, no one has to answer if they're not comfortable with the questions.

As for myself, I own two registered items and have never been asked by anyone to show proof of registration.

I have been checked by the following.

1.Range officer (not required to show but would be asked to leave if I did not have proof).
    2. Harris County Sheriff.
    3. DPS ( they ran a check of the serial number of every weapon in my possession).
    4. Game Warden.

Dang do you look like an outlaw?

Why on earth would DPS run the numbers?

Answer to the OP- I have not been checked or asked. Used the can on several public hunts with wardens there, never even batted an eye at them.

DPS said that it was policy to run all numbers on all guns.

Been stopped a few times by DPS while carrying my CHL, informed them, and never had one run. Even after a "misunderstanding" that led to the trooper nearly drawing on me the day after the Dallas police shootings happened. I had two brand new cans in the truck with me, I was on my way back home from Austin picking them up.

I have had at least one can, and usually 2-3 in my truck 98% of the time for the last 2 years. Never been stopped or checked. Been around GW's, local LEO's, shot with DPS guys, none of them ever batted an eye.

But, I also live way out in BFE and personally know most of those guys. Big city living is different.

I'd ask the range officer if it is the property owner's policy to check for documentation that they are not otherwise legally entitled to. If the owner doesn't want my business on that basis, fine by me. Do they check people's LTC on the range?
Respect for authority goes both ways (authority that you have, and authority that you don't have).
                I've never been checked.

I have bad luck when it comes to being checked.

I was placed on the do not fly list and was pulled out and it took 4.5 hrs to clear security. I am 5'10 and at the time 280 and white. I found out later that they were looking for another person with my name......BUT A DIFFERENT MIDDLE NAME. He was 5 years younger, 7" tallet and 20lbs lighter.......AND HE WAS BLACK.

It took TSA 4.5 hrs to figure out I was not him. That being said..........I fly nowhere anymore and will never leave the country.

about a year ago, I completed my 7.5" 300 blackout SBR build. I was at our local range, which the local PD, sheriffs office, and Highway patrol all use for training. Thursdays are training days for them. I happened to be out there on a Thursday, shooting my 300 blackout SBR with my suppressor on it for the first time, when 4 highway patrol SUV's rolled in. These guys were decked out! vests, AR-15's, helmets, etc. One of the officers saw me shooting my SBR, and approached me. He stood behind me until I finished firing and cleared my weapon... I figured he was about to ask to see my stamps... NOPE. This guy was really super nice. HE asked "Hey, what are you shooting there?" and I explained all the specifics.... down to my hand loaded subsonics. He asked if he could take a look at it, and I offered to let him shoot a magazine, which he did. When he was finished, he invited all his fellow officers over to look at the gun... all the guys were really nice, and a couple other guys shot it. I kinda got a kick out of it. One of the guys even had another officer take a picture of him shooting it. When they handed it back to me, they said "this is what we need instead of full length rifles". it was a pretty cool experience... not one of them asked to see my paperwork.

If you have it, why not just show them? If I take someone fishing on my boat or hunting on my property I ask to see their licence. If I owned a range I'd ask to see your Documents just the same. If you don't have them then go elsewhere. If you don't want to show them then go elsewhere.

I've been asked twice at American Shooting Center and once at Hot Wells. At Hot Wells, the manager got all bent out of shape about me just having a photo of my stamp on my phone and told me that I'd have to have the actual stamp next time. I told him that I wouldn't do that, as it would put me in jeopardy of it was lost, so it stays in my safe. Since then, I've never been asked at Hot Wells. Personally, it ****** me off for someone other than law enforcement to ask to see the stamp, because it's not their job to enforce the NFA. That being said, it's their property, so I have to comply if I want to shoot.

It was at Hot wells that I was asked....both by the range officer and another day by a HCSO with a chip on his shoulder.

What was funny is that on both I had to show them where the serial numbers were on the paperwork and on the suppressor.

Because I don't think they have any need to see it.

That's what I'd do. The range I frequent isn't interested in stuff that's not their business, so we get along just fine.

If you opened a range and made it a condition that everyone who steps up to your counter has got to show you their "Documents" my guess is you'd fold up real quick. Doesn't sound like we're birds of a feather anyway, but I'd decline an invitation to set foot on your boat if it came with a license check. I wouldn't even think of asking for your license, registration, and insurance, and that's no different.
