    Custom gun help

I've always wanted to have a gun custom made up and found an older 700 that I could rob the action from. It's currently chambered in 22-250 and I was curious what I could do with that action? I just started reloading so I know that opens up my options a little. Would like to be able to hunt with it or if I get a wild hair shoot out to 600 or so yards. Thanks in advance

You can do anything short action.
    Current bolt face is .473".
That can get you anything 308, 260,243, creedmoor, etc.

You could also have bolt face opened to .540" magnum and do WSM, SAUM (6.5 SAUM being my favorite), or other short magnum.

Upon choosing barrel and chambering, build the gun off of what bullet you want.

I'd stick with .473 bolt face short action calibers. Lots of good ones to choose from.

Calibers that would stick out to me are the 6 & 6.5mm options

          6.5 x 47 Lapua
          243ai
          260Rem
          260ai
          etc.

Great advice as these are all great calibers. I would talk with Jason or Robert at Alamo Precision rifles for the build. I took them a Rem 700 chambered in 22-250 a few weeks ago for a 6.5 Creedmoor build. I wanted to go 6.5x47L but it's for my son and he wanted the Creedmoor. They turn out some really nice rifles.

I was going to call them later and just see what they thought.

600 Yards? Huge availability of ammo and reloading supplies.

Yep. That's the dilemma. Didn't know what would work with the .22-250 action and there are so many options so I was looking for a little guidance.

I'd do a fast twist 22-250 AI if you reload. One day there will be one of those in my safe!

This is saved in my favorites. Lots of other options but this is a great list.

I'd go with one of the 6.5's for a all around gun to do what your wanting. If you reload go with the 6.5x47 lapua. If not go with the creedmore. The creed has tons of great factory ammo available seems to shoot it great and be less picky for some reason than other other calibers. Have them throw on a timney trigger, a quality stock that fits you and a good barrel. Then get to shooting and post up your groups
