What do you consider "mid-range" for price?

Sounds like a nice Firedot scope would fit the bill.

      VXR.
You won't regret the extra few dollars.

Had this scope on my patrol rifle for about a year and it has never bumped off zero even after several bumps and dings from getting it in and out of the truck. Great scope with an insane warranty.
I have this scope but in 3-9x40

I'll second the Leupold VXR with fire dot reticle. I have tried using a Viper PST with illuminated reticle and it works ok but at times even on the dimmest setting it's too bright and causes glaring. I have a VX6 with the fire dot and it's much easier to pick up just the red dot at night.

I put a NightForce on my AR. It has adjustable brightness with several levels of brightness. Sweet scope for the .308

Any recommendations for a mid-priced scope with lit reticles that would go decent on an AR?

Vortex Crossfire II 3-9x40 with V-brite reticle. Let Arrowsmith on here hook you up. But midrange price scope with illuminated reticle.

Thanks guys. Totally forgot about Vortex and I'm a fan (I have binos and rangefinder of theirs). Will do some research.

I've got the 1-4x24 on a MIni 14 and my dad and BIL have the 3-9x40 on their AR guns. It's a solid scope for the money and the type of hunting you're setting up for.
