M1A Scout Sqaud red dot?

Just picked up a M1A Scout Squad from my FFL and was wondering if anyone had any advice on a red dot optic? I have read that the ultimak rail is best with a low mount for use with the stock cheek weld, or would it be better to just buy a red dot and get a slip over cheek riser. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated fellas.

I use a Bassett picatinny low mount on my loaded but you will probably need a riser no matter which rail you use. I would use a slip on riser just to see if you will need one and what height you might need then go for a more permanent solution from there.

Why not go with a 1-4/6/8 scope?

M14 forum family says the ultimak rail is about the only way to get a red dot low enough to cowitness with iron sights. I've got a Socom I've thought about adding a red dot just haven't gotten around to it.
