Leupold Mark 4 or Nightforce SHV

Both 4.5-14 power, both have MOA reticle, both are SFP. Nightforce is 56mm where the Mark 4 is 50mm.

I have the Mark 4 and I have been tossing the idea of trying something different. Could swap my Mark 4 for the Nightforce. I have the Mark 4 steel rings and 20 MOA base and the owner of the Nightforce has the one piece 20 MOA mounting system

If you dial your elevation, stay with the leupy. If you use the reticle, consider the nightforce.
I wish my shv had exposed turrets.

I tend to use the reticle more often than dialing.

just an fyi, if you look at the f1 shv its got an exposed elevation turret. it is ffp though. not sure if you are a sfp fan or not. i thought the glass between these 2 was very similar. but i much prefer the nightforce moa reticle.

I've tossed around the shv as well. What's your thoughts behind this statement? Does it not track accurately when dialing elevation?

I just like to try new things. My stepdad has the SHV and he thinks the reticle is too fine for his eyes. I like my Mark 4 but just not overly impressed. We are talking about swapping complete setups including rings and bases cause we both have 700 long actions.

Not sure if you were directing comment to me, but I will answer for op.
The SHV does not have exposed turrets. I know I can unscrew the caps and use the turrets. When I do, yes , the SHV has tracked perfectly.

How will the Leupold VX-3I LRP compare to these?

Not much of a comparison here to me. I have/ had both and the NightForce takes the cake all day every day no questions asked. Dialing or using reticle.

I think the Nightforce NXS and SHV glass is better than the Mk4. Tracking is probably comparable. I also like Nightforce MOAR reticle better.

Very interesting. I've been thinking of upgrading but having a very hard time with the price of the NXS. Not that it isn't worth every penny just more than I want to spend.

I've looked at both the NXS and SHV side by side in the store and can't tell the difference in the glass. I'd like to look at an SHV in the field so I could look at the details waaaay down range.

Thanks for the info, this gives me something to again ponder.

The NXS and SHV are the same glass. The NXS turrets are better.
