Scope Mounting & Ring Lapping AR10

I just finished my new AR10 build yesterday and took pictures along the way during the scope install. It was a really fun project.. check it out!
    Build Specs at the end..

Flat Top ready to get going..

Wheeler Scope Install Kit with Fat Wrench This is my 3rd scope to install or reinstall with it

    Mount

    Mount on

Label the rings Front and Rear so they dont get mixed up

Install the check bars..The rings were really good from the start, from here i lapped them lightly just to smooth out the finish inside the rings and a few slight high spots

    Wheeler 220grit

I used a plastic knife, i learned after using my fingers on my first lapping project

    30mm Lapping bar

Loosely install the bar and begin, i used more side to side rotation and front to back as it loosened up. A few rotations and then ever so slightly tighten the screws and repeat until you start getting close to 70ish% of the finish material removed on a typical set of rings that are off..this mount was really good so only removed about 20% and it was perfect

Clean off the compound out of all slots and screw holes and the inside of the rings, This part was brutal, that stuff takes forever to get off.. i used a rag, old toothbrush, qtips and tissues, wiped and brushed each screw till it looked brand new and it still felt gritty when i reinstalled

    Reinstall the check bars..looks good

Fun part..unbox the new scope.. go find something to put the Leupold sticker on! RIP Sticker 2.0

Check eye relief, lay prone check eye relief, pop up and shoulder, scare the dog, check eye relief. Happy with eye relief in different positions, remount in the vise. Level out the gun, level out scope

Once it's perfect tighten screws and make sure it stays level, dont over tighten, just snug. Once they were all snug i removed one at a time in a back and forth pattern (same concept as star pattern on wheel lug nuts) I added a drop of thread locker and resnugged. These aluminum mounts call for 15-25inch lbs of torque, i used the torque fat wrench and put 20"lbs and it felt like more than enough.

    Check out the new build!

So far through the build it seems really good. It has brass threading at the buffer tube and grip which is great and reinforced. It feels really light. I did have to file the slot opposite the magazine button, just used a diamond file and 5 minutes of focus work trying not to scratch the Cerakote around the area. I can give an update after 100+ rounds and I'll have a better idea of performance. What I'm interested most in is the barrel and how that does
