    Scope rating question

If a scope is rated for up to .308 does that mean It'll work on my 300WSM. Which shoots a .308 diameter bullet.....

Probably not due to the recoil difference.

No. The rating is based on recoil, not bullet diameter. A 300wsm is significantly more recoil than a .308, usually. It MAY work but it'll probably void your warranty. You're going to want a scope rated for 300wm to be safe

Just buy a Leupold and don't worry about it.

If the scope is only rated to handle .308 recoil, it's a POS. Don't buy it.

I'm looking at a Digital NV.
There's a member on here that has the setup I want, he's willing to trade for my 300 WSM. If I did I'd put it on my AR, maybe..
Or I could sell something else pay cash for it and mount it in my 300WSM.

I PM'd Outdoor Legacy and he says it's rated for .308.

I already knew about the different recoil energy of the 2 calibers.

                It might :-)
                I wouldn't need the flashlight...

Worked ok on a squirrel ;-)

                Or Skunks :-)

I would t shoot it on anything higher than it's rated for. It's based on the amount of recoil, not the diameter of the bullet.
