Some thoughts on the $399 AR-15 & the $223 Silencer

Looking at the industry as a whole. All I can say is wSome thoughts on the $399 AR-15 & the $223 Silencer ow.

Just when you thought things had reached Rock Bottom in the AR-15 world, the bottom gets even deeper.

One company, I believe it was Palmetto State Armory, announced a $399 AR15 (this was distributor pricing not retail) Shot Show. Now Del-Ton has followed suit but this is their RETAIL PRICE.

SiCo laid off a large percentage of its work force.

Olympic Arms is closing its doors after over 40 years building AR15s.

With the margins disappearing this fast, it makes you wonder how many manufacturers and gun stores will be going out of business this year. Makes you wonder if this market model, with extremely low to non-existent margins for both manufacturers and retailers, is a sustainable model?

I have often said over the past year that when silencers are removed from the NFA, it will not be long before you see the first $50 Rimfire suppressors and $100.00 30 caliber suppressors.

I am now considering the possibility that this is going to occur without the passage of the HPA?

    1. $399.00 AR-15. PSA & now Del-Ton.
    2. SiCo lays off a large percentage of its
    3. A $223 556 presser. Or $50 Rimfire suppressors and hundred dollar 30 caliber suppressors far behind?
    4. Kel Whelan's inciteful article. http://www.recoilweb.com/whats-quiet...ry-126010.html
    5. Olympic Arms closing

Every Firearm, from the major manufacturers will have that manufacturer's can on it. I have been saying this for a year.

AAC - Remington, bushmaster, Marlin, dpms
Sig Sauer - Sig Sauer a full line
Ruger - .30 can in the works

      No current suppressors:
      Smith Wesson
      FNH
      Mossberg
      Winchester-browning
      Taurus
      Glock
      Springfield Armory

      Up for grabs
SiCo- already restructured to big corporate management structure.
      Gem tech
      Liberty
      Surefire
      Rugged
      Dead air
      Griffin Armament

If the manufacturer doesn't buy one, they will buy the engineers and jump.

You will high prices followed by a race to the bottom by the small garage machine shop manufacturers. Which, you are already seeing with the peripheral manufacturers. I predict the $50 rimfire can and the $75.00 .30 direct thread cans.

It's going to be like the aR-15 market is today with no margins for anyone.

This would be as it should be. Getting rid of useless taxes and mind numbing bureaucratic licensing is a good thing for America. It is a victory for all who understand and support the second amendment.

I feel bad for those that are negatively affected by this. But these laws have served no purpose except to burden the law abiding American who wants to protect his hearing and not annoy the heck out of his neighbors. And it opens up the opportunity for those of us who refuse to pay $1000 for a $100 can.

Centerfire systems had the Delton AR for sale last year for $15 shipped.
Plus they sold out of these $399 AR's. I am on the waiting list

I always wonder why no one ever seems to have a bad experience with a $399 ar......or is it we just never hear about it...

Suppressors cost what they do because not everyone wants to buy because of the hassle they have to go through. It's a piece of metal and isn't worth over $400 bucks in my opinion. I think if they are open for everyone to buy we will see them going for $100 to $400.

Just like a Remington 700 at Academy for $379.00 or a for a rifle from Sako for $1500 you will be able to buy them for $100 to $400 bucks depending on quality.

I hope the market is flooded with cheap ARs. I have .22s that cost more than that!

because most people don't need them to perform in Iraq and Afghanistan. Those ARs will for the most part function perfectly for 99% of the people that use them in 99% of the applications those people use them in.

I've got stupid expensive ARs. I've got $500.00 ARs. I'll soon have a few $400.00 ARs. They'll all be perfect for what they're for

I hope and at the same time fear this is the case. While I feel that most anyone can build a budget minded suppressor, can the guys building top quality complete and stay in business.

I'm far from an expert but just like the difference in a $400 academy mod 700 and a $1500 Sako there's a difference in cans. Will the cost to engineer a high end can be worth it if the they're forced to drop the price to $400.

I'm not saying that I believe a can is worth $1000-1500 but that's what the market will currently tolerate. Again, if you're looking for the lightest weight, greatest sound reduction and or precision repeatability it takes a lot of Engineering / R&D cost to make that happen.

                      $400 Del-ton? I'll pass.
                      $223 cans? No thanks.
                      I wouldn't waste $100 on a Del-Ton and that can is worth maybe $75.
I'm thrifty but not cheap. I wouldn't pay more than $100-150 for a can, total, as they just don't impress me like they do most people (yes, I've shot them). I just don't get the big wow factors that others do from them. I also refuse to jump thru the hoops to get one, as it is now, or pay all the extra money just because the Feds say so.

Part of the problem is that companies stockpiled garbage AR's expecting Hillary to get elected, prices to soar, and everyone out there looking for a "deal" on one. $400 AR's selling for $900-$1,000, to people that don't know what quality is and are panic buying. Now they are stuck with all this inventory that isn't moving.

The market for higher quality parts is actually improving IMO, more people have gotten in to shooting over the past few years, hunters have purchased AR's that wouldn't have otherwise, and guns are being used for recreation that otherwise would have been hidden away.

A lot of those higher quality parts are not being stocked now though because there is so much cheap leftover inventory.

If all this comes true, then a bunch of folks are gonna have a bunch of guns that they can't recoup their money from. I already have one or two like that
