    .410 2.5" Judge Revolver - Penetration?

Thinking about getting this revolver for carry. Just curious the penetration/stopping power you would get if the perps wearing a jacket using the .410 buckshot rounds through the 2.5" barrel? Anyone done test firing with this gun to see the damage/stopping power?

Not what I would carry but to each their own. Shotgun ammo, by design, spreads out in a pattern. Doesn't matter if it's bird shot or buckshot, after it leaves the barrel the pattern gets consistently wider. Load and barrel constriction will determine at what distance that pattern is optimal. That is why different chokes have different applications in shotgun sports, you are basically customizing the pattern for optimal performance at a given range.

None of that helps a bit in a gunfight. You don't get to pick the distance where the bad guy will be when you need to put lead on his head. If your argument is that most gunfights happen up close then there is no need for the spread of a shotgun pattern to hit your target. If your argument is that when the bad guy is too far away for the shotgun ammo to be effective you would be able to flee, again, you don't need shotgun ammo.

I will take a centerfire pistol cartridge with good self defense ammo over a .410 shot shell any day at any distance. More accurate at a wider range of distances and better predicted performance through clothing, barriers, etc. YMMV

I've watched videos and read about the Judge. It appears that if you have to fire and the perp is beyond 15' from you, forget it. From that short of a barrel, nothing is going to be super accurate once you get to and beyond 5 yards.

Too heavy as a carry gun and mine is the ultralight model. Especially when you get it loaded up.
I have mine in the nightstand and if someone comes through the bedroom door I guarantee the loads I have in it will take them out.
I bought mine e when I lived in Texas and was out in the brush a lot to use for snakes. It does great for that with .410 8 shot. Put a few .45 Long Colt in there and you will be set out in the brush.
As a carry gun, not the way I would go.

I carried 6 shot in mine with 45 behind. I figure shoot em in da face with birdshot and they can't see to continue. Never saw a need for 410 slugs when there are 45's to use. But mainly, its too heavy to carry all day.

There's plenty of videos out that that confirm why I wouldn't carry it. And the fact that it weighs as mush as an all steel full size 1911 or more.

Great for snakes....not so much for carry.
