Remington 700 CDL stock question

I have a CDL in 7/08 and the barrel touches the stock about 1 inch from the end of the stock. Does Remington use a pressure point at this location? I want the barrel to free float. Can I take that pressure point down with a Dremel tool? The Gun is not as accurate as I would like and want to work on it in the off season.

Not sure about Remingtin using a pressure on newer rifles all mine are old. Yes you can remove the wood with a dremel tool. I am not a huge fan of using the dremel tool on finished stocks I always seem to hit something I didn't want to. A dowel rod and sand paper works really well.

Dowel rod or a socket wrapped in sand paper is best. No they don't use one that I know of. Sand that sucker!!

I do believe the CDL does have a pressure point. My buddy has the same rifle and caliber if I remember correctly it had the pressure point. He removed it and gave it a bedding job.

Watch some YouTube videos on bedding and, if floating the barrel doesn't give you the accuracy you're looking for, bed the action.

Remington 700 CDL stock question

Had mine free floated, bedded and test shot before picking it back up from the gunsmith. Gun was shooting over two inch groups before. Stainless fluted CDL 257 wheatherby mag.

I'm gonna free up the barrel and then pillar bed it. I've been wanting to do that for awhile. I've been shooting 139 gr. Hornady Light Magnum ammo in it and and several different handloads that just won't seem to group like I want. New trigger coming up as well. I have a Shilen on my 7MM SAUM and I like it so thats what I'm going with.

If you didn't know already, Score Hi gunsmithing rents a jig that fits Rem 700 long of short actions that facilitates drilling out the stock for pillars.
I have used the jig on 2 rifles. It is easy.
