    Ruger American stock modification

Anyone modified the stock any to 1) add weight to the buttstock 2) stiffen the forearm? If so how did you do it and have you noticed any difference in performance in doing so? I'm pleased with the accuracy that I've been getting at the range, but read where people have been experiencing some inconsistencies when attaching a bipod in hunting situations and having the stock coming in contact with the barrel due to it lack of rigidity.

Did both by putting it in a Boyd's stock.

There's a good thread on here where people posted how they did it. I used fiberglass bondo in the barrel channel and filled the buttstock with expanding foam and 1 pound of lead weights.

Search YouTube for rockite. I did it to mine. Mine weighs over 10 pounds now.

I used memory foam crammed into the buttstock ...that helped the hollow sounds and added a touch of weight which balanced it pretty well...and good ole houshold caulking in the foreend... stiffened it up slightly but not as much as i had hoped...lol

Well I purchased some Alumilite liquid molding rubber($20 to my door via Amazon) to fill my buttstock. Was ready where some have used/mixed in steel to add some additional weight, didn't have steel BUT I did have some BBs and added them as I poured in the molding. Filled about 1/3, let it set up a bit to keep the BBs from settling to the bottom, and continued til stock was full. End product looks and feels great. Didn't weigh gun prior to, but now(with scope and all) total set up is 9lbs.
Still looking to infill the forearm as well, but need to do some sanding to create a little more barrel clearance.

I've seen the silicone method and roctite.

Maybe I'm thinking to much but I thought the jelly stuff would act different depending on conditions causing the rifle to recoil different. Been contemplating adding weight to the rear of my ranch Rifle to offset weight of the can

I was thinking of using either silicon caulk or the roof sealant on the caulk tube.

Should add a little weight and stiffen the fore end.

                  What talks thoughts?

I think part of the problem with the RAR is how flexible the fore end is. Not sure silicone would be much use in that department.

The reason I filled in the buttstock is mainly for the reason you stated. As far as the rubber molding being susceptible to weather conditions and any differences in performance, time will only tell, but I think that the rifle would have to be exposed to a drastic temperature change(high or low) for an extended amount of time for the temperature to reach thru to the silicone and then to reach even further in to affect the rigidity or flexibility of the rubber molding. Just my 0.02

                        Valid point.

I haven't been able to stretch mine past 100 yards yet. But I've been pleased with accuracy so far. I'm only asking it to shoot pigs and yotes at this point.

I do notice the rifle being more end heavy than the other 2 hosts with same can. More so when carrying to and from hunts via sling. In the blind it's not that much of an issue

How much added weight did you get?
