Changing lower from rifle to pistol

Are there any issues doing that? Like, if I bought a complete rifle lower, can I just have my FFL convert to a pistol lower on paper? Having a very hard time finding a budget complete lower and I can get a PSA blem for 139

No you cannot go from a complete rifle to a pistol.

    EDIT:
That being said, I think if you buy a complete lower but it's never actually assembled as a rifle you should be good.

I'm not sure if you can do any paperwork to make it legal, but going from rifle to pistol is a no no. Going from pistol to rifle, on the other hand is fine.

Just buy stripped and build it as a pistol, only takes a few minutes to throw a lower together.

I think having a stock officially makes it a rifle.

I'm not 100% certain, I was thinking that you have to actually assemble an upper to it to make it a rifle. It would be a lot safer to do as you stated and get a stripped lower and just build as pistol. This is the route I just went, finished my 300blk pistol a couple weeks ago.

That's what I thought, but wasn't sure. I knew you could go from pistol to rifle, but wasn't sure about the other way

I'm not 100% either. I hate these grey areas.

OP... You would have to buy a pistol tube to convert that lower any way. A blem lower plus LPK can be had for much less than $139.

Check out primary arms and joebob outfitters.

Agreed! You're going to spend a little more than $139 but it's worth it to not worry about it. Like lungbuster said, you can build for less the $139 but the route I went below has an upgraded trigger and the shockwave brace.

PSA has blemished lowers on sale for $49 right now.

This is the lower parts kit I used.

Went with the shockwave pistol brace.

369 shipped from PSA for everything but a BCG and charging handle. (I have spares) 7" key mod upper, stripped lower, pistol buffer kit, and LPK with FCG

                        Just plain ole 5.56

Easier bc I've got other ARs and bolt guns in 5.56/.223, reloading stuff, mags, etc. Just wanting a truck gun really. I drive for a living, and end up in the middle of nowhere constantly. Haha

There is no such thing as a pistol lower or a rifle lower. They are called and classified on a 4473 as a receiver.

A 1911 receiver, rem 700 receiver, Mossberg 500 receiver, and an AR lower all get the same check box

I know that. I just meant buying a complete rifle lower and then just adding a pistol buffer tube. Doesn't matter now, I've got the stuff moving from PSA for dirt cheap
