ELR caliber 30 cal or smaller?

Long action, probably magnum. I have a short barreled 308 that shoots lights out inside 800 yards. I want something that could reach a mile if I ever get a chance to play at that range, but something consistent at 1200. No 6.5 creed, no 6.5 lapua.

I'm thinking 300 win mag, possibly 6.5 x 284, 280 AI, 7mm-300 mag, or 7mm mag. The 300 norma and 7LRM both look appealing but I believe they are going to be too much for my suppressor. I reload so no availability issues, I just want something with good aftermarket brass available. I know Lapua doesn't do any of those calibers so that sucks, but Norma brass will work. Open to any recommendations 30 cal or smaller, not getting another suppressor.

Build specs as I have them now, subject to change.
Bighorn TL3 action, barrel haven't picked a brand, XLR chassis, Jewell trigger, Badger rings, Vortex Viper PST 6-24 x50 ffp scope mil/mil, and atlas bipod, rear bag, don't like mono pods.

6.5-300, 280ai, 7mm mag, 7stw, 26 nosler or 28 nosler would be my top choices.

With building a custom rifle and handloading for it, I'd do a bit of research on the 28 Nosler.

6.5-284 or possibly 26 Nosler would be a couple of good choices. The 6.5-284 will have more readily available quality brass, tons of established load data available and won't beat the crap out of you on long shooting sessions.

Here is a hypothetical drop chart based on my rifle and verified load data.

You'll need about 60MOA to get to 1760 yards so a 20MOA base is pretty much going to be a must.

I threw that one in at the end after I had put the brass thing. I'm ruling it out more and more just because of its limitations vs the others.

I did look into it and the 7-300 is same ballistics and less powder so its better on barrel life.

What limitations? Trajectory wise it's virtually identical to the 300 Win Mag shooting 185-190 grain match bullets. Except is uses half the powder and has 1/2 the recoil.

26 Nosler or 6.5X284 Norma obviously I like the Nosler. Mines shooting sub 1/2 MOA close to 1/3 MOA. Right now you can only get brass from Norma and Nosler. And Norma makes Nosler brass. So...

                      I'm just proud you didn't say you wanted a 6.5 Needmoor!! [emoji2]

I will be honest and say I haven't scanned any charts but I've read several things stating the 300 had less wind with 220's.

The one I'm thinking hardest about is the 7-300. Not something everyone has, close to 120'' less drop than the chart you printed at 1750, With berger 180 hybrids at 3100. I like the 7mm and also like being a little different, the 300 mag was in there due to known entity really, its bottom of the chart.

You need to look into the fast 6.5's on the wind charts. That's one of the main reasons I went with a 26 Nos. You also have to go heavier in a 30 cal and 7mm to equal the BC and Sectional Density you get from a 6.5, 6.5's are supremely ballistically superior to 30's when you apples to apples the 2.

Within the mentioned cartridges, I'd probably just stick with .300 Win. or 7mm. Rem. Other than being "unique" the others don't offer much. Too much overbore capacity reduces barrel life to the point that it isn't really a rifle, but rather a short lived experiment. While some folks don't mind, I could never get too exited about 5 to 8 hundred round barrel life. I once had a .264 win. mag for a long range accuracy rifle. It was pretty good, too, but after 600 rounds the barrel was totally shot. JMHO...
