    Ammo loading

I am looking to get into loading my own ammo for a 5.56 and 223 could anyone give me any advice? What gear is needed, best powder, best primers, best equipment to do it with. And where to buy all the stuff at a reasonable price. Is it honestly worth it? I'm just going to shoot at the range and play around. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you have a gun that will shoot steel case stuff without issue then 223 isnt a caliber you can save much money with. Figure 2-3 cents for primer, 7-8 cents for powder(I use H335) & at least 7-8 cents for bullets. Plus your brass and your time.

223 is the ONLY cartridge I don't typically reload for. I do load softpoint/hunting ammo.

I don't save anything loading .223, but I do it anyway because I enjoy it plus I shoot a better cartridge all around. I stockpiled enough to load 2k rounds before I really actually started. I use hornady 55 gr FMJ-BT for plinking, and hornady soft points for game. I've been using AR Comp for my powder, and I get 450ish rounds per pound. Winchester brass and winchester small rifle primers are what I use for the rest. Lee makes a good start up loading set for $150ish if I remember right. You'll need a way to prime the cases, a set of dies, a press, a set of calipers to measure case and cartridge length, and a way to trim the cases. You can find a lot of the stuff on amazon, eBay, TBH classifieds sometimes, etc. Again, you're likely not going to save any money loading .223, but it'll be good practice if you want to load other calibers later and relatively cheap for bullets, primers, powder, and brass as they're all readily available at Academy. Hope this helps
