    Pyrodex and triple seven

Default Pyrodex and Triple Seven powder
Been looking up ballistics info on my muzzleloader. Everything I've found shows info using pyrodex. Would the info be the same with triple seven as long as it's the same amount of powder and bullet?

I use Goex black powder and it has never failed me and shoots hotter than those two substitutes.

From what I know, as long as its the same F rating (F, FF, FFF, etc), the charges are interchangable between Pyrodex, Triple 7, Goex, etc.

Just remember (I didnt know this at first), The measurements are by volume, not by weight. It is not nearly as accurate a measurememt, but 100 gr by volume of pyrodex, 777, and goex may be way different by weight. 100 gr by volume of 777 weighs somewhere around 70 gr by weight, so if you loaded 100 gr by weight, you run the risk of damaging your rifle. 777 is much less corrosive than pyrodex or standard black powder (goex)

I guess what I need to know is, since I can't seem to find a trajectory chart using the bullet I'm using and triple seven powder, would the trajectory be the same using pyrodex? Like 2-50 grain pyrodex pellets and my bullet trajectory be the same as 2-50 grain triple seven pellets and the same bullet?

could be close, could be not so close. the issue is there is no "standard" for volumetric grains especially when you consider the chipping and cracking of solid pellets. I plan on switching to granular powder and working up a load just like you would with a regular cartridge. Once I get close to the most accurate load, I plan to measure out the powder by weight and adjust from there. basically take my volumetric powder measure and measure out the load and weigh it. then go from there. Just gotta stick with the exact same powder.

Once you figure out your most accurate load, its easy to figure out the ballistic data.

                I have a CVA Optima 2

I use two 50 grain pellets of Triple 7 behind a 245 grain Powerbelt. At 50 yards it groups at 1" or better.

The only way to figure it out is to take it to the range.

This is the same load and bullet I'll be using. What does it do out to 100 yards? Also are you using hollow point powebelfs or the green areo tipped ones?

                    Green tips.

And I sight mine in at 50 yards. That's a long shot for where I hunt (Eastern Oklahoma).
