I never use mine but I will now.

I feel dumb but I never thought of using for loading quiet in the blind. Bolts I load in the blind but AR I have always racked it when I got off the Ranger because it was too loud in blind.

Use mine in the deer stand where I do not want the action to slam. Use the F A to make sure the round is "there".

Too many years of training to go without one. I'll always have one on an AR rifle

          Foreward assist?

It can be your BFF in combat. It's one of those things you really need when you need it. You may go 1000 rounds or more and never use it. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Most likely you'll never need it in the civilian world ever I used to would say. But in today's world and the House Obama has built ya never know. I wouldn't own one without it.

That ought to shave about .005 oz and make it a true ultralight. [emoji12][emoji106]

            ^^I couldn't resist^^

              Foreward assist?

Folks that say no to a forward assist have never been in that jam when it was needed.
Thats like building a drag car and putting continental cruising tires on it.

I remember the first M16s I saw didn't have it and an entire platoon of the 25th Infantry were killed to the man after crossing a small river due to malfunctions. The rest of the Co. could not get to them to relieve them. I would never own an ar platform without a forward assist but I'm prejudice.

So this morning I eased the bolt closed & gave the FA 2 good bumps with the heel of my hand. When I got ready to leave I pulled the bolt to eject the round and the bolt came back without the shell.

                    1. Would it have shot?
                    2. Would the recoil cause the bolt to lock on and eject the case?

Wouldn't have shot. Doesn't sound like the bolt locked. I don't bump the assist i just steady push it you can hear/feel it lock in.

Ya know...when I'm trying to be quiet hunting with my AR, I do not use the FA. I simply push on the bolt itself to get it to click over. It doesn't take much pressure but I do keep mine wet.

Only time the FA should be used with a swift slam is when the gun turns into a single shot from being shot dry / super dirty chamber. It's an emergency use item imo.

                            Key word. Emergency.

Ive used it a couple of times. I won't get an upper without one but I think the slick side uppers without FA and dust cover look goofy. I do keep my dust cover closed all the time unless I'm shooting.
