What height scope rings for AR

I've got an optics ready AR I am about to put an illuminated reticle scope on. Because it's Optics ready it does not have a front sight objective.

Need new rings for the scope, wondering if low profile (height)or medium would be better

I have the same type of AR. I put the nikon p223 scope rings on and they work perfect. Medium to high is what you will prob have to use for the front of the scope to not hit the front hand guard.

Hadn't even thought about the handguard.

Make it as close as possible.. Your sight will be about 2.5 inches above center bore..

I'd go with high...of course, depends on 30mm or 1 inch...32, 40, 42, 44, 50...I've had to return many times and just go to high anymore. You don't want it touching but as close as you can without...makes it sighting in a hell of a lot easier!

Thanks guys, went with med. waiting on scope to arrive, looks like fed ex has lost it

1" tube with 40mm objective, may be tight, but won't know til the darn scope gets here

All depends on the objective(big) lense size. I have a 6x24x40 scope on my ar. The available rings at academy wasnt high enough, so i used a riser then rings.

AR's are a bit different than bolt rifles when scoping. They will need higher rings due to the design of the stock. An AR stock doesn't have any drop in it. You will really have to push your head down to see through the scope using low or even medium rings.

There are many one piece mounts designed to run on an AR.

1.50 is typical for most all mounts. 1.35 is doable but that's about max. Anything else will need to be mounted in front of charging handle. And doubtful if you can use anything below 1.25 on most set ups with a stock other than a bare tube.

On an ar you will probably need extra high or a riser. Totally different than a bolt gun.
